CERSAT daily collects and  homogenizes data measured by buoys from different sources.  This activity is done in order to support research activity at IFREMER (specially in wind, wave, SST, SSS and fluxes thematics) but our compilation is also open to external users.

File format


All the files collected are converted into GlobWave format.
It consists in monthly NetCDF4 files per buoy per class of sensor, with

  • same file name convention,
  • same dimensions,
  • same variables names,
  • same units and same attributes.

Variable names follow the CFconvention.


Exceptions:

  • Files are split when there is a change in positions (0.1° in latitude or longitude).
  • Files are split when there is not data during more than 24hours.
  • Files are split when there is a change in the meta-data (e.g. sensor change, altitude modification).
  • Files containing directional wave spectrum are suffixed with '_spectrum'.

Data quality assessment


The quality assessment of the different geophysical (atmospheric, oceanic, chemical, …)  and geo-location (lon, lat, time) parameters is performed by the successive providers. CERSAT only control data processing files content:

  • duplication of measurement
  • unexpected fill values
  • empty time series


Spatial and temporal networks locations


This buoy database is evolving every day and rely on providers availability.Thus CERSAT cannot states on the number of buoys available.
