Jason-1 in Safe Hold Mode since 28 February 2013 at 1613 UT

Dear OSTST Members,

Just a few days after the successful launch of the new altimetry satellite SARAL, Jason-1 has experienced an anomaly.

The Jason-1 spacecraft entered safe mode on 28 February 2013 at approximately 16:13:37 UT, immediately interrupting its measurements during Cycle 527 of the geodetic orbit. The satellite is currently in a safe and stable Sun-pointing configuration and the CNES and JPL teams are working to understand the root cause.

The geodetic mission will resume as soon as this anomaly is understood, and we will keep you informed of our progress.

Very best regards.
