About us

The CERSAT is the Satellite Data Processing and Distribution Center of Ifremer, the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea.

The datasets delivered by CERSAT address the observational description of the state of the ocean and air-sea interactions, the monitoring, evolution and impact of essential variables on the global climatic system. This ambition is built upon the analysis and combination of ocean observation coming primarly from Earth Observation satellites but also experimental campaigns, in situ measurements and modeling,  to deliver high quality expertise, data, tools and services to the ocean user community, developed in the context of numerous national and international projects supported by Copernicus, CNES, European Space Agency (ESA) or EUMETSAT.

The CERSAT is supported by two departments within Ifremer:

  • the Laboratoire D'Océanographie Physique et Spatiale (LOPS), providing expertise for the development and analysis of innovative remote-sensing science data products
  • the SISMER (Scientific Information Systems for the Sea), the service of ifremer in charge of managing marine databases, supporting the processing and dissemination of CERSAT science data products

The CERSAT is part of ODATIS, the french federated network for ocean observation data.
